There are few experiences that capture the essence of London better than a walk along the River Thames. Our team have gone through every inch of Instagram to find the most picturesque and Instagrammable locations along the River Thames, to help you take the perfect photos to share with your friends, family and followers. In the mood to get creative? Camera at the ready? Let’s dive in…

Tower Bridge, taken from City Hall

One of the most iconic vantage points for a picture of Tower Bridge is from the walkway just outside of City Hall.

It’s a great location for capturing a striking selfie during the day, but if you’re after a more romantic setting it’s best to go there during the night.

The nearest tube station to City Hall is London Bridge, but it is also served well by bus routes. If you’re staying at The Belgrave, you just need to hop on the C10 bus from Pimlico – it will take you to Bermondsey Street in about 30 minutes which is a short walk to the photo location.

The London Eye, from across the river

Some of the most impressive photos of the London Eye are actually taken from across the River and help to put the size of the wheel into perspective against the backdrop of County Hall and the buildings on Belvedere Road.

To get the best possible vantage point, you’ll want to find the Korean War Memorial on Victoria Embankment. If it’s a nice day, you can actually walk there quite easily from The Belgrave – it’s just under 1.5 miles and should take about 30 minutes. If you prefer to take public transport, your best option is the bus. The 24 will take you from Belgrave Road Stop S to Horse Guards Parade, which is only a couple of minutes walk from the memorial.

Westminster Bridge Passageway

We’re letting you in on a bit of a hidden gem here – this photo location is one that is not as commonly seen on Instagram. But we think it is beautiful!

You’re going to need someone to take this photo for you. But if you position this just right you can capture the amazing architecture of Westminster Bridge with Big Ben in the background, framed nicely by the arch of the passageway.

The passage you need is just by the fountain in St Thomas Gardens, which is walkable from The Belgrave and will take about 30 minutes. The C10 bus from Pimlico will also get you there.

Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge

While we’ve got you at Westminster Bridge, don’t forget to take a photo of the Houses of Parliament from the bridge.

There are plenty of ways to frame this photo, but we really like the longer-distance shots that allow you to get Big Ben in the picture.

Take a Thames River Cruise

Taking a river cruise is one of the best ways to see London from a different perspective, and it’s a great way to get some unique snaps that aren’t commonly seen across Instagram.

A company that has received a TripAdvisor Certificate Of Excellence for their river cruises is Thames River Sightseeing, who have packages starting from £11.50.
