Restaurants in London are often seen as some of the best in the UK and there are literally thousands to choose from. However, if you want the very best restaurant to go to, either for an important occasion, to take family on a visit or for a business meeting; then going to a Michelin star restaurant is the way forward. There are currently 19 Michelin Star restaurants in London and we’ve picked 4 of them to showcase. We’ll discuss the food, give you directions from The Belgrave and give you a little bit of a feel for them so you can pick the perfect one for your occasion.

Restaurant Story

199 Tooley Street, Southwark, SE1 2JX

40-minute tube journey

For the Tube journey, head to Pimlico station and get a Victoria Line tube towards Brixton. Get off at Stockwell and then jump on a Northern Line to Edgware via Bank tube. Get off at London Bridge and walk straight down Tooley Street, it’s about 10 minutes to walk to the restaurant.

Restaurant Story is a restaurant that loves to evolve, rather than change with the seasons. Tom Sellers’ team runs a tight ship, and this is seen in not only the food quality, but the way even the smallest detail is shown. The waiting staff are friendly and charming and every ingredient is as fresh and luxurious as you’d expect.

Tom Sellers’ restaurant opened up in 2013, and has been working hard to ensure that his restaurant is one of the best. His dishes create a narrative and invoke memories for those who come into his bright, airy restaurant in Southwark. Near to London and Tower Bridge, it is perfectly placed to get a range of people passing through its doors.

The menu is a sample menu and you won’t receive anything on arrival to show what you’ll be eating. The food is inspired by the British seasons, so depending on when you go depends on what you can expect to eat. The menu is 9 courses long, including snacks and treats and is £250 per person. With Tom’s ideas and his staff’s devotion to ensuring that their guests leave happy, it is an ideal place for a special night out.

A . Wong

70 Wilton Road, Pimlico, SW1V 1DE

5-minute walk

Perfect for those who want to stay close to the hotel, this Michelin Star restaurant is a short walk away. From the hotel door, turn left and head up Belgrave Road, before taking a right down Denbigh Street. Cross the road at Warwick Way and head straight across to Wilton Road.

A . Wong by top chef Andrew Wong is a wonderful blend of Chinese traditional dishes passed down through generations of his family and the British ingredients that he loves. Only open during select hours of the week to create a more exclusive feel.

The Collections of China menu takes around 3 hours to eat and is £220 per person, with additional costs for the wine. The ‘Lunch of the Heart’ lunch menu is £195 and is served from Wednesday to Saturday. The restaurant leans into its Chinese heritage, with menus in both English and Mandarin. With a love letter to Dim Sum, this is the place to go if you want to try a Chinese food extravaganza. Andrew has a team in place that are constantly looking at how to better the menu and come up with incredible new dishes that will leave anyone wanting more.

This restaurant does allow children, but it does not have a separate menu, so any children will be expected to eat off the main menus. They serve an à la Carte lunch menu, set lunch and dinner menus and a vegetarian dinner menu.

Once you’ve eaten your fill, you can head to their accompanying bar, the Forbidden City bar, for a range of specially devised cocktails to complement the meal you’ve had.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay

68-69 Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea, SW3 4HP

A 9-minute drive (we suggest taking a cab as there is no parking nearby), a 28-minute walk or you can get the 170 bus from Victoria Coach Station.

More off the beaten track than the others, this is hidden away in Chelsea, so it is best to get a taxi. You can walk in around 28 minutes – turn left out of the hotel, head down to get to Warwick Way, where you’ll follow this until you get to Ebury Bridge. Follow the road round as it’ll turn into Pimlico Road, cross the road where Pimlico Road turns into Royal Hospital Road.

Gordon Ramsay has made a name for himself for being a tougher chef than most. With a successful career both in and out of the kitchen, it is no wonder his restaurant is popular, yet hidden away in Chelsea. Open for lunch and dinner reservations from Tuesday to Saturday, this is the epitome of British fine dining.

Established in 1998, this restaurant is Ramsay’s flagship and although he no longer cooks regularly there, his head chef combines French cuisine and great service with barely any effort at all. The restaurant offers a range of menus, which makes it versatile for those who want to taste a few dishes without breaking the bank. There is an à la Carte menu, a standard lunch menu, a Prestige one (which is £210 for 8 courses), a Carte Blanche menu, vegetarian and a dessert menu.

If all of that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there is an Inspiration Table Menu, which is available for up to 4 guests, and you’ll get an up-close look at the inspiration behind all the dishes and ingredients used in the dishes. This experience is £300 per person, but we have it on good authority that it is very much worth it!

Overall, this is a very British restaurant that gives you French cuisine as you’ve never experienced before.

Sketch, The Lecture Room and Library

9 Conduit Street, Mayfair, London, W1S 2XG

25-minute drive (taxi would be best), 18-minute tube journey.

For the tube, head to Pimlico Tube station (a 7-minute walk) and get on the Victoria Line tube to Walthamstow Central, getting off at Oxford Circus. Once off the tube, head down Regent Street before turning onto Conduit Street.

Each month, Sketch is transformed into a stunning homage to a bit of British history. For May, it is all about Jane Austen, one of Britain’s most famous women writers. There are multiple venues here to eat and drink at, but the Lecture Room and Library are where we have a restaurant worthy of its 3 Michelin stars.

You can book for lunch on Thursdays to Saturdays between 12pm and 1:30pm, or for dinner from Tuesday through to Saturday. The timings are slightly different, so please check when booking. The restaurant itself is a playful look at different styles of food with British ingredients. The lunch tasting menu is 4 courses and £150, and the dinner tasting menu is £225 and is 7 courses.

With a theme each month, the restaurant really leans in and takes that to its very heart. A lavishly designed restaurant that is possibly the most colourful on our list, your expectations of this restaurant will be sky-high by the time you get seated. And these expectations are never lowered or let down. The team are unfailing in their service and charm and you’ll feel at home within an instant, surrounded by lush settings and eating luxurious food. A must for those who want a dining experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Book your stay at The Belgrave

All the restaurants are well-deserving of their Michelin stars, but they’re not the only ones. Take a look at the others on the Michelin website and don’t forget to stay close to the action, book your room at The Belgrave for your special London stay.
